Unique Products You Can Only Buy in Canada

Although many people widely recognize Canada for its maple syrup, hockey, and cold winters, Canadians enjoy unique products that are majorly available in their country and utterly unknown to their neighbors and importers.

Here is a list of unique products that you can only find in Canada:

1. Butter tarts

These mouthwatering desserts- pastry patty shells filled with corn syrup or maple, butter, sugar, and raisings, are a distinctive Canadian treat. Some articles trace this delicacy back to the early 1900s, while others propose they date back to the mid-1600s. Regardless, butter tarts are a seasonal dessert that Canadians enjoy during Christmas. Unlike in other countries where few bakeries offer butter tarts, you can find pre-packaged versions in your favorite store across Canada.

2. Milk in Bags

Canadians have been gushing milk from transparent polythene bags since the 1960s, a European style that DuPont, a Canadian food packaging company, introduced to Canada in 1967 as a more practical and cheap alternative to heavy glass containers used before. Some American states have tried to copy this concept, but the Americans have not yet embraced the practice.

3. Caesars

Americans may flirt about their Bloody Marys, but they cannot outdo Caesars, the Canadian hangover cure. Like Bloody Mary, the recipe requires 1-2 ounces of vodka, ½ teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce, ¼ tablespoon of hot sauce, and 4-6 ounces Clamato juice. You can use various crowning items, including limes, olives, celery, and other greeneries. Serve it cold and enjoy.

4. Coffee Crisp

Featuring discontinuous layers of vanilla wafer and frothy coffee-flavored candy below a dense layer of milk chocolate, coffee crisp is a Canadian delicacy that you may never find anywhere in the world.

5. Swiss Chalet

Swiss Chalet is a Canadian barbecued chicken outlet only available in Canada. The eatery is known for ribs, chicken, and a unique dipping sauce. Although there were some joints in various U.S locations, including New York, Puerto Rico, and Buffalo, they have closed, and thus, Swiss Chalet remains is all Canadian.

6. Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC)

Like the American-based REI, Mountain Equipment Co-op was established in 1971 by four mountaineering buddies who wanted to give Canadians a cost-effective way to buy outdoor equipment without going to the United States. Today, MEC operates as a co-op, charging $5 for membership (you cannot buy anything from the store without it). The firm is found in 18 cities across Canada and has 4.5 members from Canada and worldwide.

Canada has many unique products that you may never find anywhere else in the world. When you get to Canada, ensure you try some of the products mentioned above.
