Stay at Home Order Issued for Ontario
Doug Ford is the Premier of Ontario. He recently stated that Ontario will be going into a four-week lockdown. Every non-essential shop will be forced to close. The reason that Ontario will be going into another lockdown is because Covid 19 cases have surged. Doug stated that the situation is serious and has to be handled properly.
He also said that they have to put all of the necessary precautions into place until more people are able to get vaccinated. Ontario is the most populated province in Canada. People are advised to only leave their home to get groceries, medical care or exercise. Indoor and outdoor dining was closed last week.
All Non-Essential Businesses Closed
Grocery stores, pharmacies, gardening supply stores and other stores that are deemed essential are the only ones that are allowed to stay open. However, if a business can offer curbside pickup, then there are allowed to stay open.
There are some big box businesses that can stay open. However, they are only allowed to sell certain things. They will also be required to limit the number of people who can be at the building at any time. This decision has been criticized by many people. They do not understand why small businesses have to close while big box businesses are allowed to stay open.
Canada Hit Hard By a Third Wave
Justin Trudea, who is the Prime Minister, stated that the third wave of Covid is more dangerous. He also stated that more young people are being hospitalized with Covid. They said that the new variants are making the third wave more deadly.
There are more Covid 19 patients in Ontario hospitals now than ever before. Ontario is trying to get more people vaccinated. They are setting up sites at workplaces, community centers and many other places. The vaccinations will be available for everyone who is over the age of 18.
Toronto Public Health closed schools in Ontario until April 18. However, Doug does not agree with this decision. He stated that it is safe for kids to be at school.
