Entrepreneur Elton Pereira Gives Back Through Charitable Giving

Career Background

Entrepreneur Elton Pereira is best known for starting a number of highly successful companies in Victoria, British Columbia, including SendtoNews, a sports video distribution platform and SureSwift Capital, a VC firm that helps scale SaaS companies, as well as strong supporting roles at Version One Ventures, The Very Good Butchers, and Gravity Group.

Before diving headfirst into business, Elton Pereira earned his Bachelor of Commerce, with a focus on entrepreneurship and finance, from the University of Victoria in British Columbia. His first job saw him at CIBC, where he oversaw over $60 million in assets, and he was quickly recognized as one of Canada’s best financial advisors.

Giving Back Internationally

Throughout his career, Elton has made charitable giving and philanthropy a major priority, as well as an integral part of the companies where he has served. One example is Elton’s involvement with Change Heroes, an innovative platform designed to empower fundraising efforts by both companies and individuals. Change Heroes partnered with Free the Children and Elton’s company, ParetoLogic, to raise money to build a number of schools in the Dominican Republic, Mexico, India, Haiti, and Kenya, and Elton personally raised $30,000 in just a single week in order to fund construction of three new schools in Rajasthan, India. He also sponsors children and funds global projects by working with World Vision.

Giving at Home

In his native Canada, Elton Pereira is a fixture of his community. He and other former members of his software company’s team shaved their heads to support Cops for Cancer, served breakfasts at Our Place, gave blood to Canadian Blood Services, made donations to BC Children’s Hospital, and helped young girls get the protection and rehabilitation they need at the Eddie & Maggie Pires Center. During the holiday season, Elton Pereira has also partnered with CFAX Santas Anonymous to deliver toys to children. He has also made contributions or worked with the Canadian Red Cross, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and Power to Be, to name just a few other organizations.

Empowering the Next Generation of Entrepreneurs

Recently, Elton helped launch Startup Skool, an entrepreneurial program at Victoria’s Glenlyon Norfolk School. This program helps children cultivate the skills they will need to launch businesses, become digitally literate, solve problems, and think critically, while instilling creativity, resilience, and confidence along the way.

Startup Skool serves kids between the ages of 7 and 16, with different groups focused on creativity, innovation, and design. At the end of each week-long session, Startup Skool groups make pitches or get to participate in a virtual meet and greet with Victoria-based business leaders. Students get a chance to develop innovative ideas, test products in a market, create advertisements, build prototypes, and even present these concepts to local entrepreneurs, much like the hit TV show Dragons Den.

Awards and Achievements

Elton Pereira is widely recognized as both an entrepreneur and someone who knows the importance of giving back, both locally and globally. His former company won the Community Engagement Award in 2012 at the BCTIA Technology Impact Awards, the 2017 VIATEC Community Involvement Award, and the World Vision Recognition for Humanitarian Efforts Award in both 2015 and 2016.

As he moves on to new ventures and explores new ideas, Elton Pereira will continue to find new ways to make a positive impact in the world.
