Wealthsimple has been engaged in a deal with capital investors and popular Canadian celebrities that caused a spontaneous increase in its value to around $5 billion. Wealthsimple is a business that deals in financial services; it is located in Toronto.
On Monday, Wealthsimple claimed that it had received a lump sum of $750 million from major firms involved in capital investments. Some of the major firms include Greylock, Dragoneer, Meritech and iNovia. On top of the major firms, there were six celebrities. The celebrities included actors Ryan Reynolds and Michael B Jordan, rapper Drake, NBA players Dwight Powel and Kelly Olynyk and athlete Patrick Marleau.
The CEO and co-founder of Wealthsimple, Mike Kitchen, claims that Wealth simple, among other financial service companies, are meant to experience rapid growth and changes in the future. The fact that Wealthsimple has found favour in many leading investors’ eyes may be able to champion the growth.
Mike has made plans to direct the increased money towards increasing the company’s market position, growing its team and the way it offers products.
Wealthsimple started off as a manager for online investments and has grown towards creating its own trading platform referred to as Wealthsimple Trade that is commission-free. It also came up with Wealthsimple crypto. This platform enables its users to hold and trade cryptocurrency assets. Their other addition is Wealthsimple Cash; this platform enables its users to send money among themselves and offers services such as saving, tax filing, and automated investing.
Wealthsimple managed to come up with $114 million from Meritech, Greylock and TCV due to the October post-money valuation; they were valued at $1.5 billion.
Wealthsimple are also optimistic because the last time Greylock and Meritech came together to fund a company was in 2006 when they founded Facebook. Max Motschwiller, Meritech’s general partner, claims that the company invests in companies that have a great potential to become game-changers in their industries.
Max also confirms that Wealthsimple captures the needs of the millennials in regards to their financial services in Canada. The services offered by wealth simple are superior in comparison to other companies that were there before them. This is because their services are human, simple and the technology in use is able to satisfy its consumers sufficiently.
Meritech’s other investments include Lime, Lilly, Zulily, Nextdoor and Salesforce. Greylock has also been involved in Discord, Coinbase, LinkedIn and Airbnb.
