Canada is a country with natural beauty and vibrant cities. If you’re planning a weekend getaway to Ontario, there are many things to do that you can place on your itinerary.

Wine Country

Ontario’s wine country is known for its Cabernet Francs, Rieslings and Ice Wines. It’s also home to many inviting inns and Victorian architecture. One of the most popular places to stay is the Prince of Wale Hotel.

You can use a bicycle to tour the wine country. In between wine and cheese pairings at wineries, you can stop in its historic downtown. There are several excellent restaurants, such as Treadwell. There’s also a theatre where the Shaw Festival is held each year.

Prince Edward County

Prince Edward County is the place to visit if you’re a foodie. A popular thing to do is go on the Taste Trail. Key stops on the trail include Slickers County Ice Cream and Hillier Creek Estates. People enjoy having picnics at Sandbanks Provincial Park. Other things to do include wineries, breweries, galleries, farms and antique shops.

Algonquin Provincial Park

This park is three hours from Ottawa. The only way to get around at Algonquin Provincial Park is by walking, canoeing and horseback. There are many trails to enjoy. The park is especially beautiful in the fall when the leaves change color. The two best day hikes are Bat Lake Trail and Mizzy Lake Trail. For a multi-day and challenging hike, pick the Highland Backpacking Trail.

Hamilton

Hamilton is a quaint city on Lake Ontario. While Hamilton used to be a steel town, it’s since remade itself as something more upscale. There are many cafés and galleries in Hamilton, along with places to do yoga. It has 100 waterfalls to visit, with many of them lit up at night. There’s also the Botanical Garden, which is the largest of its kind in Canada.

Thunder Bay
